Creation of Forests Ontario in Canada

A new larger organisation devoted to sustainable forests in Ontario Canada has been created through the merger of the two not-for-profits Trees Ontario and the Ontario Forestry Association (OFA).

From March 19 2014, the new combined Forests Ontario aims to be better able to help in the forest stewardship and greening of the state.

“Forests Ontario is the voice for Ontario’s forests,” said Rob Keen, CEO of Forests Ontario (formerly Trees Ontario CEO). “This merge has created an organization with enhanced capacity and allowed us to expand our delivery of environmental education, events and programs. It also allows all Ontarians to invest in the future of our forests – through donations, sponsorships, volunteerism, tree planting, community awareness events and forest management.”

Previously, Trees Ontario committed itself to the re-greening of Ontario through tree planting efforts on private rural lands and in urban areas, while the OFA supported the stewardship of forest ecosystems.

Now as a combined organization with over 85 partners they will continue to provide a range of programs and services in the state such as the 50 million tree program, as being able to provide a stronger public presence advocating for abundant, healthy and sustainable forests.
